Emma from the Hackney Museum brought in artefacts to introduce the children to what the museum was about.  These included a dinosaur fossil, found on Stoke Newington common, and a piece of Roman pottery. The children then worked in groups and each had a suitcase to investigate as “history detectives”. They had to look at the clues and artefacts in the suitcase and guess who they belonged to. These included a German man who came to Hackney with seeds and some of the trees from the seeds he planted are in Abney Park cemetery. The other suitcases belonged to a Victorian maid, a female bus conductor from the Caribbean and a young boy who fled from the war in Sierra Leone.
