Year 6 went to Millfields Theatre to watch a performance of Romeo and Juliet by the Young Shakespeare Company. Both classes were already familiar with the story and the performance by the talented cast really brought the play to life. The play was given a modern urban context, which included Romeo serenading Juliet with acoustic versions of pop songs! The production enabled the children to access the story and Shakespearian language and develop a deeper understanding of the characters. In subsequent class work, the children were able to discuss the characters and their motivations in considerable detail and were also lucky enough to meet the cast at the end of the show.
