We are extremely lucky at William Patten to have been chosen to take part in a truly out of this world experiment! We have just received a delivery of rocket seeds that have been orbiting Earth inside the International Space Station with British astronaut Tim Peake! The seeds have been sent as part of Rocket Science, a project launched by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and the UK Space Agency. Year 5 will be growing them as part of a very exciting nationwide science experiment, to compare which seeds grow best. Will it be the seeds that have experienced zero gravity in space, or the seeds that have remained here on Earth? The success of Rocket Science relies on schools across the UK inputting data from the experiment into a national database to contribute to our knowledge of growing food in space. We won’t know which have gone to space and which have stayed on Earth until all the data has been returned and analysed, but we can make our predictions as they grow!
