The William Patten Spanish App is now ready! Two special launch events were held at the school on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th January, during which the app was demonstrated to parents and carers. The children were then able to join their families to explore the app together. We were joined by special guests from the Education Department of the Spanish Embassy, as well as a representative from the Hackney Learning Trust. Local restaurant Escocesa also very kindly provided Spanish tapas during both mornings, which was very well received and we are very grateful to have been supported in such a thoughtful way by a local business. The app is the culmination of a whole school project in which children from each class (reception to year 6) were filmed using the Spanish they had been learning in their Spanish lessons. The children took part in a range of activities including – role play, speaking and listening, singing and dramatic performance. The user of the app views the video content and then completes activities using the vocabulary modelled by the children. They can even practise their pronunciation by listening to a Spanish speaker and then recording their own voice into the app to compare! Our huge thanks go to Jonathan Bygrave who approached the school at the beginning of the previous school year with an idea to create a William Patten Spanish app. His time, effort and expertise have produced an outcome that is incredibly polished and professional and also represents the children’s energy and humour. The ‘William Patten Spanish APP’ is suitable for all children who would like to learn more Spanish from reception age+ and shows what fun learning a language can be! It is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, as well as http://onelink.to/976cpj.
