At the end of the last school year, we submitted an application to the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom to renew its LOtC Quality Mark. Schools awarded the quality mark have demonstrated –
The school was visited by an assessor on the last day of the previous half term and has again been awarded the quality mark but this time at gold level!!! This means that William Patten is now a nationally recognised leader of learning outside the classroom. The assessor’s report acknowledges many aspects of school practice and to achieve this level of award many things were taken into account including – LOtC in and around the school grounds, progression in and regularity of educational visits, planning for school trips, child voice and the role of school council, inclusion and cross curricular approaches.
This award would not have been possible were it not for the support of our families and the help provided by parents and carers on school trips, as well as special events in and around the school such as Tastes of the World. The final comment from the assessor at the end of the evaluation report is particularly positive ‘It was a real pleasure to visit William Patten Primary and meet some of the staff and pupils. The school has a strong culture of continual improvement with the flexibility to allow challenges to be met quickly. They have made enormous strides in their LOtC provision…and…I have no hesitation in making the award to this excellent school.’
