It has been so lovely to see the children coming to visit this week. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing them and it was great to hear that they were so excited with many children up very early on the day they were coming in (some were awake at 5.30am!)
We will not be setting classwork on Google classroom for the last two weeks of term. The children have worked incredibly hard and I know that it has not always been easy, but there has been such a variety of lovely work done including films, music, sculptures, paintings and baking, as well as Literacy and Maths. I have thoroughly enjoyed curating work for our Instagram account and have been thrilled to see such creativity and imagination from our children. Thank you for your support of GC throughout this long period of lockdown.
Over the next fortnight, the teachers will be spending more time in school meeting their old class to say goodbye and their new class to say hello and preparing for next year. Instead of GC the teachers will be doing three interactive sessions with their class (so six in total) before the end of term. The first session would introduce a task. The second session would be sharing the work. The third session would be a short story or poem. The times will be the same as the other interactive sessions, but on different days working around the teacher commitments. Details will be sent home tomorrow of which days for which year group. The teachers will continue to provide the pre-recorded stories.
We will also be launching a competition based around Black Lives Matter. There will be three age groups – EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The competition will be posted on Google Classroom tomorrow.
Families can also access resources from Hackney Learning Trust if they would like to continue additional home learning. See below.
Hackney Learning Trust Home Learning Resources
The topic ‘Let’s Build!’ is now on the Services for Schools website which focuses on houses and homes and encourages children to build different structures such as Lego towers, buildings, dens and bridges. Remaining topics for this term are ‘Let’s Create!’ which will focus on the use of pattern and the final topic will support with transition between year groups and different stages of education. The reading team at HLT have also created a Padlet of websites which currently give free access to texts. Whilst they will never replace real books, they are useful for ensuring children can broaden their repertoire of authors and stories and widen their vocabulary.
