We are nearly at the end of the summer term and a very strange year! It has been so lovely to see our children continuing to visit to say goodbye / hello. I know that the Google Meet sessions have been very popular with lots of fun had, I hear! We will start rainbow wrapping the trees in the playground next week. The weather has been so miserable, we didn’t want to put them up for them to get soaked. The pictures will be on our Instagram for you to see, as you are not able to come into the playground
Plans for September
I am so pleased to say that all children will be back in September. We can’t wait to see them on Monday 7th September! The children will be in every day and we will follow DfE guidelines, which state that ‘schools must comply with health and safety law, which requires them to assess risks and put in place appropriate control measures’. We will therefore need to review and update our risk assessment. We know already that this will impact on a large number of arrangements, including playtimes, lunchtimes, assemblies etc as children will still need to be kept in separate class and year group bubbles.
I am able to provide some details for September, so that parents can start to plan for the autumn term. To avoid lots of people in the playground at once, we will initially stagger the drop off and collection times. I am aware that if you have children in different year groups, it will mean some waiting around, but this is unavoidable. I am confident that we will be able to work together to ensure everything runs smoothly.
More details will be sent during the summer holiday, so please keep an eye out for an email from school.
• Year 5 and 6 day – 8.50am – 3.10pm
• Year 3 and 4 day – 9.00am – 3.20pm
• Year 1 and 2 day – 9.10am – 3.30pm
• Nursery and Reception – 9.20 – 3.30pm (EYFS will do 9.30 – 12.30 for their first week. Parents of EYFS children have already been informed of their school visit date, during week commencing the 7/9, and also their staggered starting schedule during week commencing 14/9. (Full days will commence from 21/9. )
Fit For Sport will start on Monday 14th September and will operate as it has during the summer, with separate age group bubbles.
Breakfast Club will start on Monday 14th September in age group bubbles.
We will NOT run clubs before school, at lunchtime or after school until the new routines are established. We may be able to start after the October half term, but it may be January. We will keep you informed.
Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England. The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as encouraging children to keep on reading during the long summer break. Last year we came very, very close to having the most number of books read in Hackney; it would be great if we came top this year! This summer the Challenge is mainly being done online, please see the latest Summer Reading Challenge update from Hackney Libraries. Let’s see if WP can win!
Hackney Libraries also craft, quizzes and other activities online that can be accessed via Twitter (@hackneylibs) and Facebook (@hackneylibraries).

Headteacher’s Tea Party invitations
In KS1 and KS2, when children receive the Magic Number 5 nominations, they get an invitation to a Headteacher’s Tea Party. As you know we have continued the awards throughout lockdown. We now have over 100 children who have received their 5th HTA award and we will be sending out their invitations today in the post. I am delighted to say that I have Tea Parties every afternoon for the first two weeks back. The perfect way to start a new term!
Have a lovely weekend!
