We hope you enjoyed the live sessions today. We know that there were some technical glitches, but apart from that the sessions appeared to go very well and it was lovely seeing all our virtual classes from Nursery – Year 6!
We think the few difficulties were due to which devices parents were trying to use – especially older iPads or iPads that didn’t have the latest Google Meet/Classroom apps downloaded.
Please make sure that
• You have the latest Google Meet app on your iPad
• You have latest Google Classroom app on your iPad.
• You access Google Meet through your child’s account and not your own
• If you have downloaded the latest version of these Google Apps, make sure that your passcode is updated
Teachers will also add the link to the stream so there are multiple routes to get to the meeting.
Some parents have contacted me to ask about attendance at the live sessions, as they have developed a routine with their family which is working well. The live literacy lesson is a more structured online activity, as it has a different purpose to the daily greeting. Although sessions are not compulsory, we would hope that children would be present during their teacher’s explanation, so that they are well prepared to complete the task. However, it will be up to parents to decide what is most appropriate for their child and all the work for the children is still being assigned on Google Classroom, to enable families to manage their own timetable, depending on work, caring and any other commitments. This also applies to the live story at the end of the morning, the music sessions with Alison and the health and fitness sessions with Jim.
I know Maya’s technical drop in session was very popular last week, with lots of demand. Some parents were not able to speak to her, so we are hosting another drop in for parents this Friday 22nd January 9am – 3.30pm and Maya will be available to talk through any technical problems you are having.
