Black History Month: KS2
Throughout the school this week we have been celebrating Black History Month and Key Stage 2 have had the opportunity to experience live interactive workshops in each class, as well as lessons that celebrate Black history and culture.
Both Year 3 and 4 travelled back in time to meet people aboard HMS Windrush and found out about different cultural traditions that we still cherish today. Years 5 and 6 focused on exploring London’s Black History heroes. The pupils in Year 5 investigated the life of Malorie Blackman, while in Year 6 the children enjoyed finding out about grime artist Stormzy and how he is supporting the Black Lives Matter movement here in the UK.
All of the workshops and lessons this week have given everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of Black heritage and culture. Here is what some of the children have had to say…
“I loved learning about how life on board the Windrush was like, and I really enjoyed all the engaging lessons.”
“The workshop was very fun and I learnt a lot about Stormzy, things that I didn’t know. We even got to contribute to our own learning by using lots of drama - I really enjoyed the workshop!”
