Dear parents,

Here is a copy of the Year 6 national tests timetable. The 2023 Keystage 2 National Curriculum tests will be held from Tuesday 9th May – Friday 12th May.

Tuesday 9th May English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers 1 and 2

45 minutes and 15 minutes for the spelling

Pupils will sit one grammar and punctuation paper and one spelling paper.

The grammar and punctuation paper is a mixture of multiple choice and short-answer questions.

The spelling paper requires the student to listen to their teacher as a transcript is read and spell out the missing words on their answer booklet.

Wednesday 10th May English reading

1 hour

The reading paper requires pupils to read a booklet that contains three extracts. They must then answer questions that test them on their comprehension of the three texts.

Thursday 11th May Mathematics papers 1 and 2

30 minutes for paper 1 and 40 minutes for paper 2

Paper one is on arithmetic and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

Paper two is on reasoning and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

Friday 12th May Mathematics paper 3

40 minutes

Paper three is also on reasoning and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

It is particularly important that during the tests, the children are in school on time. The children have been encouraged to bring in bottles of water with them each day, so that they have a drink available during the tests and also to bring some fruit to eat in their break. The test papers will be sent away for external marking and when we receive notification of the children’s individual results in July, we will send them home via email. Due to the change in the timetable because of the Coronation Bank holiday, the DfE have stated that there might be a delay in the results being returned to school, but they should be before the end of term

We have planned some lovely activities for the children to enjoy after the tests. Further details about the trips and payment will be sent nearer the time.
