Dear parents,

I am writing to let you know that the school will be having work done to the façade of the building when we come back in January. The work is long overdue (we have been waiting three years!), but the leaking roof and flaky brickwork will be fixed. The work is being undertaken by Hackney Council and has been outsourced to Piera.

The works will have a significant impact on the school. The entire building will be covered in scaffolding and the work will take until August to complete. We will also lose some of our playground space as there needs to be storage space for equipment and materials, as well as facilities for the construction team. It may mean we have to ask parents to use certain gates at certain times or to avoid coming in to school unless absolutely necessary.

We have met with the constructors several times and have a final meeting tomorrow before work commences on 3rd January. We will continue to have regular meetings with the team to ensure minimum disruption to the day to day running of the school.

For the week before we come back to school, the north elevation (the building side facing Church Street) will have the scaffolding erected.

The week we come back to school, the scaffolding on the west elevation (the playground side including the backroom and house) will have the scaffolding erected. This will be done during school time. In the following weeks, the two remaining sides of the building will have the scaffolding erected. Once it is all done, work can commence.

The construction team have completed work across a large number of schools and so are used to working on large projects such as this and all are DBS checked. We are hopeful that the works are finished on time!

I would like to reassure parents that the safety of the children, staff team, parents and visitors has been considered at all times during the planning process and I will continue to keep parents informed about the works on a regular basis and will write to you again in January when we are back after the holidays.

Thank you for your understanding.

With very best wishes
