Dear parents,

Here is a copy of the Year 6 national tests timetable. The 2024 Keystage 2 National Curriculum tests will be held from Monday 13th May to Thursday 16th May.

Monday 13th May English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers 1 and 2

45 minutes and 15 minutes for the spelling

Pupils will sit one grammar and punctuation paper and one spelling paper.

The grammar and punctuation paper is a mixture of multiple choice and short-answer questions.

The spelling paper requires the student to listen to their teacher as a transcript is read and spell out the missing words on their answer booklet.

Tuesday 14th May English reading

1 hour

The reading paper requires pupils to read a booklet that contains three extracts. They must then answer questions that test them on their comprehension of the three texts.

Wednesday 15th May Mathematics papers 1 and 2

30 minutes for paper 1 and 40 minutes for paper 2

Paper one is on arithmetic and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

Paper two is on reasoning and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

Thursday 16th May Mathematics paper 3

40 minutes

Paper three is also on reasoning and pupils are not permitted to use a calculator.

It is particularly important that during the tests, the children are in school on time.

The children have been encouraged to bring in bottles of water with them each day, so that they have a drink available during the tests and also to bring some fruit to eat in their break.

The Year 6 children and staff team have worked incredibly hard, so don’t actually need good luck, but we will wish them it anyway!

The test papers will be sent away for external marking and when we receive notification of the children’s individual results at the beginning of July, we will send them home via email.

We have planned some lovely activities for the children to enjoy post-tests.

Sian will be taking each class for an Art day in the Art studio in May (one class on each day). The classes also have their Royal Institute of British Architects workshops. We have booked Islington Boat Club and a trip to Hackney School of Food, where the children will make pizza and brownies. Both classes will be involved in a Transition workshop with Place2Be. All dates will be confirmed shortly and sent to you via email.

We are also inviting parents to share lunch with their children with the Year 6 ‘Come Dine With Us’ on Wednesday 3rd July.

The children will also be busy rehearsing for the Talent Show too!

Best wishes

Karen
